Patient Experience Planning Ahead

You can begin the discharge planning process while still at home by arranging for help before surgery:

• Organize your home before you leave for the hospital so you will be able to rest easier upon your return. You won't be allowed to drive after the procedure, so arrange for transportation home with a friend or family member. Discharge occurs at approximately 10 am.
• If you live alone, ask a close friend or family member to stay with you for a few days. Having company and an extra pair of hands around will make you feel safer and more secure during your first days at home. You will need assistance with grocery shopping, meal preparation, and housekeeping.
• If you are employed, you will not be able to return to work for several weeks, so make all the necessary arrangements for extended leave.
